The privacy of our customers is very important to us. We only collect data that is necessary for operating our services and for order processing (including licensing), and we protect it using modern security measures. This privacy policy describes what data is collected and how it is used.

Data collected when accessing this website

This website has been rewritten to not include third-party tracking frameworks like Google Analytics. However, when you access any website, your browser transmits basic technical data such as your IP address, operating system, browser language and type, and the access time.

Each site access is logged by our web server (standard web server configuration). Our servers are hosted at Hetzner Online GmbH. Log data is deleted after a maximum of 4 weeks.

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes. We only use aggregated, non-user-specific statistics (e.g. number of visitors and traffic).

Web analytics (self-hosted Plausible)

To understand how many people visit this website and which pages are popular, we use the open-source analytics software Plausible (Community Edition), which we host ourselves on our own server at Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. No data is transmitted to any third party. Plausible does not use cookies, does not store any identifiers in your browser, and does not track you across websites or sessions. Your IP address and browser information are only used transiently to derive an anonymous, non-reversible identifier (hashed with a random salt that is discarded and regenerated every day) and are never stored. All reports consist exclusively of aggregated statistics (e.g. page views, referrer domains, browser types, countries). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in privacy-friendly, aggregate reach measurement of our own website). More information: https://plausible.io/data-policy.

Documentation search (Algolia DocSearch)

We use Algolia DocSearch (Algolia, Inc. and/or its affiliates) to provide documentation search. When you use the search feature, your search query and technically necessary connection data (in particular IP address, timestamp, and potentially user agent/browser information) are transmitted to Algolia to return search results. The purpose is to provide a fast, relevant search experience and improve usability. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in an efficient search function). Algolia may use subprocessors and may process data in countries outside the EU/EEA. Where applicable, transfers to third countries rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses). Cookies: DocSearch typically doesn’t set cookies. Cookies/IDs may be created if Algolia Insights/Analytics is enabled in the browser. On the purchase page we load an external script from our reseller Paddle.com for the purchase process (see next section).

Data collected when purchasing BetterTouchTool

The data you enter when purchasing BetterTouchTool (e.g. name, email address, VAT ID) is processed by our reseller Paddle.com. Please see their privacy policy: https://paddle.com/gdpr and https://paddle.com/privacy. We do not have access to your payment details (credit card etc.).

On our side, we process certain reseller-provided data to fulfill the contract (generate and deliver your license). We store a copy of the generated license file so we can re-send it. License files contain the license holder name, email address and order transaction ID. This data is not used for marketing.

For reliable delivery of license emails we use Mailchimp. Mailchimp may be located in the USA. International transfers to third countries (e.g. USA) are based, depending on the provider, on EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) and/or an adequacy decision (e.g. the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) where the provider is certified/listed.

Data collected in BetterTouchTool

BetterTouchTool checks for updates regularly. During update checks it transmits basic, anonymized system data such as macOS version, BetterTouchTool version and Mac model, to provide the appropriate update. We do not use this data for any other purpose.

After an update has been installed successfully, BetterTouchTool sends a request containing an installation ID, BetterTouchTool version and macOS version. This is used to count installations of new versions.

When installing a new BetterTouchTool license, it transmits a salted hash of your computer UUID and the transaction ID. This is used to prevent illegal distribution of licenses (e.g. abnormal use across many devices). In such cases we may disable the license.

If you enable Dropbox Sync, your settings are uploaded to your Dropbox account.

Data collected in BTT Remote

After first install and after every update, BTT Remote sends a request containing an installation ID, app version, device model and iOS version to count installations.

If BTT Remote is used to generate a BetterTouchTool license, we use the entered name and email to generate the license. Because license generation happens on our server, server logs contain your IP address and are deleted after 4 weeks. We store a copy of the generated license for re-delivery.

For reliable delivery of license emails we use Mailchimp (see international transfer information above).

Data collected in BetterSnapTool

BetterSnapTool may check a text file on our server to show important service messages. During this request our server temporarily logs your IP address and macOS version; logs are deleted after 4 weeks.

Data collected on the Community Platform (community.folivora.ai) and on share.folivora.ai

Our community platform is based on the open source software “Discourse” and is hosted on our own servers in Germany (Hetzner Online GmbH). Users need to register to post content. We store account data, user-generated content and technical logs (e.g. IP address) for security and spam prevention; logs are deleted after a maximum of 4 weeks.

Emails for the community platform are sent via Mailjet (France). Cookies are used only for technical functionality (no ads/tracking).

On share.folivora.ai we store presets you upload; you can download and delete them at any time.

Other external infrastructure we use

For our own email (sent and received), we use Google services. Google may be located in the USA. International transfers to third countries (e.g. USA) are based, depending on the provider, on EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) and/or an adequacy decision (e.g. the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) where the provider is certified/listed.

Your Rights

You can request access, deletion, correction, restriction, portability, object to processing, and withdraw consent (if applicable) by emailing andreas@folivora.ai. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
